I'm playing catch up here, but having a quick look at 4 social media or community websites now and the aim was to:

1. Identify the core purpose of the site.

2. Identify how the site accomplishes this task.

3. Identify what unique features the site has to make the experience better.

Site #1: Deaf Pigeon

1. 'Fixed Gear' Biking site, dedicated to enthusiasts and taking on a 'hub' feel.

2. Brings 'fixed gear' bike enthusiasts to a central point to find out current events in the bike world, new stuff, gadgets, meets and similar people. Accomplishes this byt making everything clear and concise using tabs and headers.

3. Unique features - I wouldnt say the site has 'unique' features in that they're completely new and exciting, but they are unique to their brand in that they direct people to different areas of the site, including the blog, the events page, use social media.

There is a 'links' page that takes users to another page where all the members have posted up their favourite shops, places to go, movies to watch etc. Helps people identify with the community that's been created.
